Lillian Cingo

“The country owes a great deal to Lillian Cingo for her management of the Phelophepa Train. She is a wonderful role model for the country’s health care professionals and workers.” – Professor Paul Maylam

Set on her own against a stark black background, Lillian Cingo is a picture of grace. Photographed by Adrian Steirn at Noah’s Ark, in Kliptown Soweto, Cingo wears an old-fashioned nurse’s uniform. The portrait reflects her courage and nobility, and the strength needed to dedicate a life to caring for others.

As Steirn says, “Lillian Cingo is a warm, positive person, which creates such a contrast against the work that she does: it’s so tough. The portrait has an absolute dignity about it.”
